Buderim’s Scott is a skilled Ayurvedic Practitioner -Advanced Diploma Ayurveda, Cert 4 Ayurveda, Diploma Western Herbal Medicine.
Scott is a skilled Ayurvedic Practioner with 11 years of clinical experience and runs a busy practice at Yoga Therapy & Ayurveda Wellness Centre Sunshine Coast with his wife Kim Allan.
Scott has been studying Ayurveda since 2006 and completed his Ayurvedic Clinical Diet and Lifestyle Consultants course with Dr Ajit of the Australasian Institute of Ayurvedic Studies in 2008 and further went on to complete his Advanced Diploma in Ayurveda and has been running a successful practice since.

Kim is a certified Svastha Yoga teacher and Yoga Therapist, and she is your Svastha Yoga teacher at the Yoga Therapy and Ayurveda Wellness Centre in Buderim, with over 12 years of teaching experience.

Kim conducts small intimate classes at the centre in a nurturing, supported environment where you have the space to grow in your practice as an individual. You will be guided during your time with Kim with clear direction and an in depth understanding on the fundamental practices of Yoga.

As the New Year is well on its way I wanted to touch base with everyone and take a moment to refresh on the best approach when looking at sustaining or implementing change to improve our health. The motivation to do so is from seeing the efforts of all the our clients and the hard work they have put in to overcome there chronic health problems over the last few years. Their patience and dedication has paid off in more ways than one. I hope the read inspires you to take a direction similar or if you’ve tried before maybe its time to try again.
In a study completed by The Harvard School of public health found from 100,000 patients those that adopted just five healthy lifestyle habits had an 82 percent lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and a 65 percent lower chance of dying from cancer. This gives us a very clear idea of the benefits that implementing simple changes into our lives brings great results . This research conducted reflects what Ayurveda has spoken about for thousands of years, that lifestyle changes including diet, reducing stress reverse and chronic disease will lead you to a happier healthier life

One of the biggest hurdles when overcoming a debilitating or chronic health condition can be accepting the need or wanting to make change in ones diet and lifestyle. Many can think that a super pill either in the form of modern medicine or holistic medicine will solve their problem with some resorting to taking excessive amounts of natural supplements ranging from 6 to 20 different items taken 2 or 3 times daily, a common thing I see in the clinic, is the use of over supplementing to achieve balance.
It’s a frequent occurrence at the clinic where customers drop in asking if there is something they can take for a certain health concern, in which we kindly educate the importance of coming in for a consultation so a proper holistic approach can be taken. This involves addressing diet, lifestyle, behaviors, thoughts and emotions, herbal preparations and body treatments . This is a holistic approach.
Many understand the holistic approach to be one who just sells supplements that are so called natural or may be dressed like a mystic waving a magic wand rubbing essential oils on the body or implementing some emotional unblocking treatment or Yoga class to cure your problems, all to well to see that it has only got one so far if not falling even further behind.
In order to achieve a health goal it is important to make a step to change or undo the impact that has occurred on your health this might be in the form of chronic inflammation, digestive problems, chronic stress, hormonal imbalance, immune system problems depleted nervous system or heart disease.
Results happen when we sustain meaningful changes with our health over a period of time. In some cases clients have forgotten they had the issue they originally came in with because they are feeling so good, others who have more severe conditions require patience and time to get better, will still receive benefits along the way with the road to a full recovery a little longer.
When we experience results that we have been working towards, whether that be improved energy, weight loss, better digestion or reduced pain, we need to hold onto and remember this experience and use them as a means to inspire us to move forward continuing on with our health programs. When we start to do this our life greatly improves, on a biological, mental and emotional level these changes then become sustainable due to our daily practice of implementing these changes. Think about it if you’re learning something new or making some sort of change and don’t succeed we get down on our self and think we cant do this and stop. Yet it is no different to learning something new like juggling or surfing or learning a musical instrument when we first try it the fact is we are not going to get it right it will require practice simply because our brains are not wired with coordinating these changes yet and it will take time for it to become effortless changing our diet and lifestyle around is no different.
When implementing change we need to look beyond simply what we eat and how we live and include how we think, act and behave as is also just as important. Keeping our minds stable by implementing some form of practice for the mind such as meditation, mindfulness, self compassion or Yoga can be a support to the changes we have made for a complete holistic wellness approach. Remember you don’t have to be an expert to begin with this or have done research on google, just make a start from where you are today, or if you find your mediating but still not finding benefit seek the advice from a qualified practitioner. Kim and I still do this today we have our teachers we refer to for our own personal growth and development and as an ongoing support personally and professionally.
No amount of time spent on the internet with Dr google can replace valuable one on one face to face time with an experienced practitioner who sees you as you are in this moment and provide personalized care and ongoing support.
