Understanding Blood Disorders: Causes, Symptoms, and Natural Solutions

Blood disorders are some of the most complex and challenging conditions I see in the clinic. They impact the body’s ability to transport oxygen, fight infection, and allow for a better quality of life all essential to our overall vitality. These conditions affect the quality, quantity, or function of red and white blood cells and platelets. In many cases, we also see the production of immature or dysfunctional cells in the blood or bone marrow, which can crowd out healthy cells and weaken systemic function.

These imbalances may arise from bone marrow dysfunction, genetic mutations, nutritional deficiencies, immune dysregulation, or chronic inflammation. Conditions like Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), where the marrow can’t produce mature, functional blood cells or Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) driven by chromosomal abnormalities can result in fatigue, immune suppression, bleeding tendencies, and systemic stress. Iron deficiency anaemia is more common but still debilitating, which often stems from poor gut absorption, chronic blood loss, or reproductive strain. In this condition, the client can easily be misled in the natural health industry as iron supplements are recommended without any long-term plan or dosage control. Underlining health issues that have not been addressed, as well as lack of understanding of the pathophysiology of this disorder by the practitioner, can also led to poor results.

Common Symptoms May Include:

•Persistent or extreme fatigue

•Paleness

•Frequent infections or slow recovery from illness

•Easy bruising or prolonged bleeding

•Shortness of breath, especially on exertion

•Dizziness or light-headedness, the head feels foggy

•Irregular heartbeat or palpitations

•Low mood

•Digestive disturbances (especially in cases of iron deficiency)

•Cold hands and feet, poor circulation

•Menstrual irregularities in women

•Low or abnormal red blood cell count

•Low or abnormal white blood cell count

A Holistic Approach Led by Scott Allan

As the clinic’s principal practitioner, I bring over 17 years of full-time clinical experience in Ayurveda. My studies have led me further into an interest with focus which includes digestive health, immunology, pathophysiology and chronic disease management, including helping to manage haematological conditions such as Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) and Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML).

Maintaining an evidence-informed clinical practice rooted in classical Ayurvedic texts while drawing on modern biomedical understanding. Offering precise, compassionate care, blending herbal medicine. The goal is to restore vitality, support blood regeneration, and improve immune function naturally while often working in conjunction with medical treatments.

Here are just a few of the journeys of clients who sought alternative solutions to chronic blood conditions:

Brendon’s Jounery with blood cancer

“I contacted Scott after being diagnosed with a blood cancer in June 2024 for assistance with additional treatment to chemotherapy. Within the first week I felt amazing. I have since completed 10 months of chemotherapy and immunotherapy alongside high dose steroids and multiple medications without any side effects thanks to Scott and Kim’s treatments. Their knowledge, personalised treatments and generosity have assisted me in reaching stringent complete remission. I now have the knowledge and support which will help me continue to follow the treatment and live a healthy fulfilling life after cancer. I highly recommend Scott and Kim’s services for any general health concerns, stress management and if you genuinely want to have a healthy mind and body.”

Shelly’s Journey with MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome)

“I wandered into the Centre over a year ago, not really knowing what I wanted, but I knew I was not well and needed help. I later found out I had MDS—a blood cancer where the red blood cells don’t form properly. I was under Scott’s care and instantly felt relaxed and cared for. I changed my diet and implemented treatments and tonics. I had to have two blood transfusions from my haematologist at the beginning, then gradually, every blood test got better and better.

Throughout the year, I also started practising Kim’s yoga, which has just completed the whole package. I now have normal blood readings, and one doctor said to me, ‘Well, I guess we put it down to an act of God.’ I am so grateful, and Ayurveda will always have a place in my life.”

Karis’s Experience with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia

“Scott has been treating me for Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia since December 2016. In this period, he has prescribed numerous herbs, self-massage (abhyanga), and dietary support, which has helped me cope enormously throughout my healing, particularly in supporting my immune system.

Combined with medical therapy, I have entered into full remission. I have found Scott to be caring and supportive, and feel sure we will continue an Ayurvedic relationship for many years. I have no hesitation recommending Scott Allan to anyone suffering from chronic illness.”

Kerrie’s  support story

“Thankyou Scott for helping me through my cancer journey. By following the regime and taking the herbs you suggested I am keeping very well and exceeding oncology expectations. I am so grateful I found you and find your explanations and advice so helpful. I would recommend you to anyone facing a health crisis or wanting to prevent one from happening”. Kerrie Sunshine Coast

Integrating Women’s Health – Endometriosis, Iron Deficiency & Gut Absorption

Seeking an alternative solution to endometriosis and poor gut absorption was a pivotal step for one client:

“Seeing Scott was the best decision I ever made. I had spent years and a lot of money taking pills that led nowhere. A friend recommended Scott, and within six months, I’ve seen vast improvements—including a dramatic reduction in endometriosis-related pain, significant weight loss, and finally, stable iron levels after years of deficiency.

Scott gives a clear assessment and practical guidance on incorporating simple but powerful changes into your lifestyle. My energy has improved and my blood tests are finally showing results.” Client, Sunshine Coast

These stories are a reminder that healing doesn’t always follow a straight path. But with consistency, trust, and a personalised approach, deep transformation is possible.
